The bundt cake, known here in Austria as Gugelhupf is a simple cake to make but with a very impressive presentation due to the typical mold in which is baked.

Last time I have shared with you the most famous Viennese cake in the world, the Sacher torte, and today I keep spreading the Austrian cake tradition with another very typical cake: the Bundt cake or Gugelhupf.
I quick search in Wikipedia describes that " In late Medieval Austria, a Gugelhupf was served at major community events such as weddings, and was decorated with flowers, leaves, candles, and seasonal fruits. " As I mention this cake is quite simple to make but due to the shape of the mold it becomes more than a simple round cake, and it can be easily decorated to make it more special for any event.
I have decided to make this simple recipe just a tad bit more interesting by having two batter, one vanilla and one cacao flavored, in this way when the cake is cut into slices there is a nice marble effect.
I like to enjoy this cake for breakfast with a good cup of coffee, and since it takes only about 30 min to be prepared (without baking time) I prepare it sometimes even in the morning!
Ingredients
450g flour
200g butter
16g baking powder
270ml milk
1 tbsp vanilla extract or 1 tsp of vanilla seeds
5 eggs
250g caster sugar
50 g flour (for the vanilla batter)
30g cocoa powder (for the cacao batter)
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 180 C
2. Mix in a bowl with a whisk (or use a food processor) the butter with the sugar, a pinch of salt and the vanilla extract until the mixture is light and fluffy
3. Add the eggs one by one while mixing. Mix until everything is well combined and the batter is smooth without any lumps
4. Sift together the flour and the baking powder in another bowl and then add them to the batter spoon by spoon. To avoid the creation of lumps I suggest you work in the batter one spoon of flour at the time, until it is completely adsorbed
5. Finally add the 270ml of milk
6. Now divided the batter in two equal parts, and move one part in a separate bowl
7. Add to one part of the batter the 50 g of flour and mix well. To the other batter add the cocoa and the milk and mix well
8. Grease your bundt mold
9. Add first all the vanilla butter and then add on top all the cocoa butter. Take a spoon and gently try to swirl the two batter together. Don't overdo it, otherwise there won't be any marble effect.
10. Bake in the oven for about 40-50 min
11. Enjoy
Ciao
